New Year's Eve Magic!
I actually don't believe in guilt. It's a useless emotion, and really only benefits the one feeling guilty. Your guilt over making fun of my Star Wars leggings doesn't really help me at all, does it?
Anyhow "guilty pleasures" is commonly used to mean "I am way too fucking cool to listen to this crap but how ironic that I'm teliing you about it now!"

On December 31/January 1 my radio co-host and boyfriend Ron Raymond, Jr. and I hosted a nine-hour New Year's Eve Dance Party on WMPG. Initially we were just subbing for DJ Shaxx at 9:00, but then the Ben, the 7:00 guy, needed a sub, and Theo, the 11:00 guy, also wanted a sub, and when Paul, the 5:00 guy, found out we were doing everyone else's show, he politely asked if we would sub his show. And of course we did! And when the 1:30 am guy didn't show until 2:15, it turned into over 9 hours. By then I had changed back into a pumpkin; it was well below zero and I was tired and crabby and cold and I put my pre-show outfit back on.
Usually I program 60s and 70s sets, and Ron's specialty is 80s, of course. We changed it up on New Year's Eve. We started at 5:00 with an hour of 60s that Ron programmed, then an hour of 70s that we programmed together, and I did the 80s set. After that I played a couple of hours of classic disco, Ron did an hour of Prince, and then it was just a free-for-all, ending with Mr. Bowie's Heroes and David Live, all the way through. It was late, we were tired, and we realized with great embarrassment that we hadn't played any Bowie.
So this is my 80s set: all pop, all awesome. And oh, how we danced, in a completely non-ironic fashion. Go community radio!
